Montpelier Vermont, Capital
The Winooski River Valley, which connects Barre to Burlington, has since prehistoric times been one of the few East/West pathways through the mountains that make up the back bone of Vermont. Today this pathway, with over 25 shops, is Vermont’s premier antiques corridor. It connects several historic Vermont communities with a wide variety of quality antiques. Since two days are needed to complete this excursion, we recommend the Winooski River BuyWay as Vermont’s perfect antique getaway weekend.
Your weekend will be based in Barre, 100 years ago, Vermont’s most cosmopolitan city and home to America’s finest granite and granite sculptors. Just 8 miles away lies Montpelier, the smallest state capital in America and certainly, one of it’s most charming. In the center of the Winooski River BuyWay sits Waterbury, long a Vermont crossroads community and today home to Ben and Jerry’s and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. Further west, in Chittenden County, you will find Richmond, with it’s famous Round Church, and Burlington, Vermont’s Queen City, often ranked one of America’s most livable cities, beautifully situated on the banks of Lake Champlain.
Our first recommended day trip, after completing BuyWay 1 is BuyWay loop 1A, The Caledonia County BuyWay Loop
