This route, for the most part, follows Rt. 7 from Rutland, Vermont’s second city, to Vergennes, America’s smallest city. After visiting Rutland, one of American’s premier marble producing centers, you will travel through the southern end of the Champlain Valley and some of the best farm land in Vermont. You will pass through small historic towns such as Proctor and Brandon, as well as Middlebury, with it’s renowned college and lovely architecture.
Suggested Route of Travel: BuyWay 5 follows US Rt. 7 from Rutland to Middlebury and can be traveled in either direction. You will be passing through historic Brandon and several other small villages. In the most southern section, you will visit Proctor by following Vt. Rt. 3 between Pittsford and Center Rutland and US Rt. 4 to Rutland. If you have not seen the towns of Vergennes and Shelburne as part of BuyWay Loop 1C and have extra time, you may want to include these wonderful villages in BuyWay 5 as well.
